Akademie Schloss Solitude
The project »Zwangsarbeit/en – Work Force/d« focuses on sites of National Socialist forced labor in Stuttgart. Between 1939 and 1945, tens of thousands of people from all over Europe were used as forced laborers in industry, construction, and private households. This residency aims to make these historical sites readable again through artistic interventions and mediation formats in public spaces, exploring stories, traces, and connections to contemporary precarious labor conditions.
A six-month stay in Stuttgart, a monthly stipend of 1,300 €, a furnished living/work studio, travel cost reimbursement, project funds of 5,000 €, health insurance for non-EU citizens, and access to wood, metal, and video/VR workshops.
Open to national and international visual artists and artists working in public spaces. Applicants must be prepared to engage artistically with specific historical sites of forced labor in Stuttgart. No age limit applies. Applications from collectives are not permitted.
