Ultima Vez
Join us for a workshop that immerses you in the physical, intuitive, and theatrical language of Ultima Vez. Over the course of five full days, you will enter the company’s unique way of approaching movement, creation, and performance on stage – a practice where intense physicality, intuition, and theatricality are inseparable. Each day combines physical training, improvisation, and creative exploration, progressively building toward a final collective sharing. Together we will explore the fundamental principles of Ultima Vez’s language: listening, relation to space, movement intention, presence, energy, trust, conflict, and risk. We will also investigate the role of physical sensations and emotions, and how they can be transformed into living stage material. Part of the workshop will be dedicated to analyzing creative processes within the Ultima Vez repertoire. By looking closely at specific scenes, ideas, and materials, we will uncover the methodologies and strategies that shape the company’s work, many of which are rooted in play. These insights will serve as a springboard for participants to create their own proposals through improvisation, composition, and material exchange – individually, in duets, trios, and groups. We will observe how memory, desire, and imagination can nourish the work and feed into a collective vocabulary in constant evolution. This workshop is led by Magdalena Öttl and German Jauregui, collaborators who have each worked with Ultima Vez across different periods. Together they will share their perspectives on the codified elements of the company’s physical language, while exploring how genuine performativity emerges from its invisible rules, hidden games, resourceful elements, and emotional ambiguity. Above all, the experience is guided by a sense of curiosity and joy in the work. The workshop will close with a collective sharing where participants present the material developed throughout the week. This workshop is part of our new educational programme, which has already brought workshops to Brussels, Estonia, Mexico, Italy, and Spain.
