About the Open Call

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Bristol Art Museum invites artists from across the country to submit works on paper for our annual national call for art. As part of the town of Bristol's commemorative celebrations, this exhibition will reflect on the enduring words of the Declaration of Independence. Artists are encouraged to explore moments that shape our collective story, considering freedom, identity, and community. Working in any medium on paper or of paper, from drawing, painting, and printmaking to collage, photography, or experimental forms, interpretations that are bold, intimate, reflective, or challenging are welcomed. Juror Meredith Stern, known for her printmaking and social actions, is a member of The Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative with works in permanent collections including the Library of Congress and MOMA. The exhibition will be on view Sunday, February 22 – Friday, April 10, 2026, with an artist reception on February 22.

What is Offered

Cash Awards (TBA) will be presented. Artists have the option to make their works available for sale, with all sales negotiated directly between the artist and collector, and no commission taken by the Museum.

Requirements

Artists must reside in the USA and be at least eighteen years old. Works must be original, relate to the exhibition theme, and adhere to a maximum size of 24” x 36” (diptychs/triptychs count as one). Framed artworks require plexiglass (no glass). Unframed works must be presented with clips, magnets, or alternative hanging systems. Acceptable media include drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, photography, mixed media, and small-scale sculpture. Shipped artworks must be sent via UPS only, include a prepaid return label, and arrive by January 28, 2026. Hand-delivered artworks are accepted January 29-30, 2026.

How to Apply

Artists may submit up to three artworks relating to the theme via their OnlineJuriedShows artist profiles. Submissions require jpg images (under 4 mb, sRGB, at least 1920 pixels longest side @ 72 dpi) and a brief artist statement (150 words maximum).
