Roanoke Arts Commission
The City of Roanoke and the Roanoke Arts Commission invite submissions of 3-D work for a three-year exhibition at a new plaza near the Wasena Bridge. Concepts and finished work must reflect the spirit of the community, specifically the Old Southwest and Wasena neighborhoods, and themes of bridging and convergence. The work must be durable for an outdoor, high-traffic, unmonitored environment and be of a scale suitable for the 6'x6' pedestal. Submissions from Roanoke-based artists, women, and artists of color are strongly encouraged. Selected work will be leased for three years, with a potential decision to explore purchase after the first year.
A stipend of up to $7,000 for the three-year lease period.
Open to all artists 18 and older or supervised student groups. Work must be 3-D freestanding sculpture, maintenance-free, suitable for outdoor display and family viewing. Dimensions must not exceed 15' in height and 6' in width, and the piece must weigh less than 1,500 lbs. Artists are responsible for transportation, travel, and installation costs.
Apply online via the CaFÉ website. Submissions must include an artist statement (300 words max), a project statement (500 words max), images of the proposed sculpture or concept, images of past related work, an anchoring illustration, an anticipated project budget, and contact info for two professional references.
