About the Open Call

Variations 2026 is an 8-week, juried exhibit of 2D and 3D artwork held at the Marblehead Arts Association's antique mansion gallery. Artwork will be juried for acceptance and judged for prizes in three main categories: Fine Art, Photography, and 3D works. Accepted 2D work must be framed and wired for the Walker hanging system, while 3D work must meet specific size and weight constraints for pedestal or floor display. All mediums are welcome including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, and crafts. The MAA takes a 40% commission on sales.

What is Offered

Cash prizes in each category (Fine Art, Photography, and 3-D): $1,000 for first place, $250 for second place, and $100 for third place. Artists receive 60% commission on sales.

Requirements

Open to national artists. Work must be original. 2D work maximum size is 42 inches on any side and must not exceed 30 lbs. 3D work must not exceed 50 lbs and must fit a 12x12 inch pedestal or 3x3 foot floor space. Computer-generated or AI subjects are not allowed. Applicants under 18 require parent/guardian permission.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the CaFÉ website. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces. The base entry fee is $35, with a $10 additional media fee for extra images. MAA members are eligible for a $10 discount code.
