Out On Screen
The Vancouver Queer Film Festival seeks films, TV series, and web series in all genres created by 2SLGBTQIA+ storytellers and centered on 2SLGBTQIA+ protagonists. The festival prioritizes stories that challenge stereotypes and celebrate Two Spirit, queer, and trans communities. The 38th annual edition includes in-person screenings (September 10-20, 2026) and online screenings (September 21-27, 2026).
Competitive screening fees for all selected films, cash prizes up to $5,000, in-kind awards valued at $25,000, travel support for select filmmakers, and homestay accommodation opportunities.
Lead creatives (director, writer, or lead producer) must be 2SLGBTQIA+. Films must center on 2SLGBTQIA+ protagonists and have an initial release date no earlier than March 2025. Content must not be publicly viewable online or had a general theatrical release in Canada prior to the festival. Works-in-progress are accepted if finished by May 1, 2026. Use of AI must be disclosed.
Submit all entries through the FilmFreeway platform. Fee waivers are available for Indigenous filmmakers and underrepresented artists by emailing entries@outonscreen.com.
