Ucross Residency Program

About the Open Call

Since its founding in 1981, Ucross has become a vital resource for artists globally, offering uninterrupted time and space that is increasingly rare. The residency program provides a respectful, comfortable, and productive environment, freeing artists from daily pressures. Approximately 115 individuals are hosted annually, with residencies lasting two to six weeks. Typically, up to ten individuals are in residence at a time, comprising four writers, four visual artists, and two composers. Ucross provides living accommodations, meals, and work space. Lunch and dinners are prepared Monday to Friday by a professional chef, with provisions for breakfasts and weekends. Lunches are delivered to individual studios, and group dinners occur at 6 p.m. Towels, linens, and weekly housekeeping for bedrooms are provided. Cell phone service and wireless internet are available throughout residency facilities. Residents are responsible for their own working materials and travel to Sheridan, Wyoming. The program also offers dedicated Fellowships for Native American Visual Artists and Writers. There are two residency sessions per year: Spring (January-early June) and Fall (August-early December). The open call for Spring 2026 is from May 1, 2025, to July 15, 2025. The open call for Fall 2026 is from November 1, 2025, to January 15, 2026.

What is Offered

Ucross provides each artist with living accommodations, meals (lunch and dinners prepared Monday-Friday, provisions for breakfasts and weekends), work space, uninterrupted time, towels, linens, weekly housekeeping, cell phone service, and wireless internet. The residency itself has no charge.

Requirements

The residency program is open to visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, interdisciplinary artists, performance artists, and collaborative teams. Applicants must exhibit professional standing in their field; both established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply.
