About the Open Call

Manifest Gallery's 'TOOLS' is an open call for original works from all traditional and non-traditional genres and media, internationally. The theme focuses on objects of utility, including machines, equipment, and devices used to create, move, or power things. There are no size restrictions beyond what fits in the gallery, and no date restrictions on when the work must have been made. The selection process involves a two-part jury system, with final selections made by the exhibit curator from a jury-approved pool. Artists must submit digital images adhering to specific file naming and resolution requirements, with an option for video/interactive works to provide online links. Accepted artists are required to make their work available for the exhibition and cover shipping costs. Professional-level presentation and craftsmanship are a must. Manifest Gallery retains a 30% commission on sold artworks.

What is Offered

Every exhibiting artist receives a $50 cash honorarium. There are also Grand Jury Awards, with $1,000 awarded to one work during each of the nine exhibition periods in Manifest's 22nd season. All exhibiting artists will have their work documented in a high-quality, hard-cover season publication (MEA), with options to purchase a copy at a discount or receive one free for solo exhibitors or supporting donors.

Requirements

The call is open to everyone internationally. Entries must be original works addressing the broad theme of 'TOOLS'. All traditional and non-traditional genres and media are accepted. There are no size restrictions beyond what can fit in the gallery spaces and through the door. No date restrictions apply to when works must have been made. Professional-level presentation and craftsmanship are required. Submitting the entry form implies agreement to make work available and ship/deliver it to the gallery if selected.

How to Apply

Submit the required online entry form. Pay the non-refundable entry fee of $45 for up to three entries (and $5 for each additional entry) by U.S. check or money order payable to MANIFEST, or via PayPal using the link provided after form submission. Upload high-quality digital images to the project Dropbox link, also provided after form submission. Image files must be named using the artist's last name, first name, and entry number (e.g., Jones_Mike_1.jpg). Detail images must include '_detail' in the filename (e.g., Jones_Mike_1detail1.jpg). Video or interactive submissions require a link to a viewable online copy and a single representative JPEG image uploaded to Dropbox. Ensure all links are direct and do not require login. All communication regarding submissions should reference the exhibit title.
