About the Open Call

The Studios at MASS MoCA is a year-round residency program that hosts up to 10 artists at a time. The program provides artists with private studio space, housing across the street from the museum, and access to the museum's galleries and research facilities. There are three application tracks: General (which includes financial aid and fellowships), Early (for those with outside funding), and Alumni. The selection is made by a curatorial jury based on the artist's portfolio.

What is Offered

Private studio space, housing, access to MASS MoCA galleries, financial aid, and fully funded fellowships.

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. The residency primarily seeks visual artists and writers. It is not suitable for performers, dancers, or musicians due to sound and space limitations. The studios cannot accommodate practices that generate strong fumes.

How to Apply

Artists must apply through the Studios at MASS MoCA Submittable page. Applications open two months prior to the quarterly deadlines: February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1.
