About the Open Call

The Kyoto Retreat provides selected participants a four-week stay in Kyoto for research, exploration, and inspiration. The 2026 residency takes place from November 1–30. Eligible applicants include those working in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, interdisciplinary practice, and social practice. Applicants must be over 21 years old.

What is Offered

Selected participants receive a roundtrip flight, private accommodation, and $800 USD to supplement meals and local transportation.

Requirements

Applicants must be over 21 years old and working in specified artistic disciplines.
