About the Open Call

The Finalists’ Exhibition showcases a curated selection of works chosen from a competitive national pool, highlighting innovation, diversity, and contemporary artistic practice. Held at Metro Arts in Brisbane, the exhibition runs from 25 July to 8 August 2026, following the opening and prize announcement on 24 July. It serves as a key moment for emerging artists to present their work to curators, collectors, and the public, and is widely regarded as a snapshot of the future of Australian contemporary art.

What is Offered

$40,000 cash prize for the overall winner, plus exhibition and professional development opportunities for finalists.

Requirements

The prize is open to Australian early-career artists aged 18 and over, working across all media and subject matter. Artists submit work for consideration, and a selection panel chooses finalists based on originality, innovation, and strength of practice. Selected artists are invited to exhibit their work as part of the finalists’ exhibition and become eligible for multiple non-acquisitive awards, with a total prize pool of approximately $55,000.
