About the Open Call

Treat Gallery announces "Synesthetic Soundscapes," their Summer open call of 2025. This online exhibition explores the deep connection between sound and visual art, drawing inspiration from artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, and Martin Klimas. They are seeking 8 to 12 visual artists whose work is inspired by specific songs, lyrics, or the power, rhythm, and emotion of music. The selected works will be featured on the Treat Gallery website from September 1st through September 30th. A portion of sales (25%) will be donated to MusiCan, a Brooklyn, NY-based nonprofit providing music programs to disadvantaged children in New York City.

What is Offered

Selected artists will have their work featured in an online exhibition on the Treat Gallery website, running from September 1st through September 30th. Their work will be promoted on social media, and artists will receive 50% of any sales made.

Requirements

Visual artists are invited to apply. Submitted images should be 1000px on the longest side and correctly labeled. Artists must provide an artist statement and details about a song or album inspiring their work. An application fee is required unless a waiver code is obtained.

How to Apply

Applicants must complete the online form, providing their name, pronouns, email, and images of their work (up to 5 images). Images should be 1000px on the longest side and correctly labeled following the format: _LastName_FirstName_ImageTitle_Dimensions_Year_Medium_Price_. An artist statement is required, relating the work to the theme "In Writing" (note: this appears to be a typo in the original, should likely be "Synesthetic Soundscapes"). An optional biography can also be submitted. Applicants must select a song or album that inspires their submitted work. An application fee applies, varying based on the number of images submitted ($10 for 1 image, up to $40 for 5 images). Previous fee payers can contact the gallery for a waiver code.
