Burningword Literary Journal
Burningword Literary Journal accepts poetry, flash fiction, flash nonfiction, photography, and digital art submissions for publication. Please read through the brief guidelines and publishing schedule before you submit. Genres and Details: - Poetry: Up to three (3) poems, one file, fewer than 6 pages, must be unpublished. Simultaneous submissions welcomed with withdrawal upon acceptance elsewhere. - Flash fiction/nonfiction: Aim for 300-500 words or less per piece. Up to two (2) pieces per issue, one file, fewer than five pages, must be unpublished. Simultaneous submissions welcomed with withdrawal upon acceptance elsewhere. - Photography & digital art: Open call for original photography or 2D digital art. Up to three (3) image files, JPG format, 1,850 pixels on longest side, no larger than 7MB. Previously published work and further dissemination allowed. Important Guidelines: - Double-anonymous review process: Remove all instances of your name from your work before uploading. - Name (or pen name), contact information, and third-person bio should be entered using the submission form and will be published with selected work. - Withdraw submissions via the submission system. - Modifications to work, including byline and bio, are not possible after publication. - No reduction of submission fees due to double-anonymous system limitation. - Accepts simultaneous submissions and prefers unpublished material (except for visual arts). Guidelines After Publication: - Limited ability to proof work before publication. Errors by Burningword will be corrected ASAP. - Authors and artists receive one complimentary print copy. Schedule: Burningword is a quarterly web, print, and digital publication with online issues published January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15. The cut-off date for submissions is the 10th day of the prior month for each quarter: October 1 - December 10 (January Issue); January 1 - March 10 (April Issue); April 1 - June 10 (July Issue); July 1 - September 10 (October Issue). Copyrights, Reprinting, and Attribution: Burningword Literary Journal typically asks for the right to publish an author’s work in a single print edition, an epub version of the same issue, and future retrospective editions. After publication, all rights revert to authors. Publishers wishing to reprint, repost, or redistribute must contact the writer and secure permission. Refer to Copyright Notice and Submissions Agreement for policies.
