About the Open Call

Studio By The Tracks’ (SBTT) Artists-in-Residence (AIRs) work in collaboration with SBTT artists—who are on the autism spectrum—and staff to create new works and support ongoing programs. The program aims to enrich the experience of SBTT artists while expanding educational and creative offerings to the community. AIRs are expected to spend 80 hours over four months in the studio, provide educational opportunities for artists and professional development for staff, and present a public project inspired by or created in collaboration with SBTT artists.

What is Offered

A $3,600 stipend, a budget for project development and production, and support for the creation, research, and implementation of education and presentation components.

Requirements

Commitment of 80 hours over 4 months; majority of time must be scheduled concurrent with studio classes. Residency is primarily designed for artists local to the Birmingham, AL area as lodging and transportation are not provided. Participation includes teaching a free community class and providing professional development for staff.

How to Apply

Applicants must complete the online Jotform application, which includes submitting a resume/CV, website or social media links, and answering long-form questions about their interest in working with neurodiverse artists. Applicants must also upload up to six work samples or project documentation files. Video responses to long-form questions are accepted for accessibility.
