Ars Electronica and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs
State of the ART(ist) explores the intersections of art, activism, and resistance. It is a long-term offer for artists in danger, providing financial support, visibility, and international networking. The initiative welcomes (collective) works, projects, and actions at the intersection of art and human rights, including micro-performances, social software, and AI projects. Submissions can be personalized or anonymous.
1 Main prize (€6,000) and 1 Award of Distinction (€4,000), exhibition at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, international networking, and inclusion in the Ars Electronica Archive.
Artists whose livelihoods are severely affected by conflict zones, political persecution, restrictions on freedom of expression, environmental crises, or economic exploitation. The answer to the question 'What is Risk?' is required for a valid submission.
