Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program
The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program offers rent-free, non-living studio space to 17 visual artists for year-long residencies located in DUMBO, Brooklyn. The program operates from September 2026 to August 2027. Studios are equipped with freight and passenger elevator access and high ceilings. Communal amenities include a kitchen, slop sinks, restrooms, and a sitting area with Wi-Fi. Artists have 24/7 access to their studios. While the program does not provide housing, artists are responsible for their own accommodation. Program participants are expected to spend at least 20 hours per week in the studio, assist in planning and participating in the spring open studios event, maintain communal spaces, and submit studio work reports at 6 and 12 months.
Rent-free non-living studio space for a year-long residency.
The program is open to professional visual artists who are 21 years or older and live in the United States, or are US citizens or permanent residents living abroad. Applicants must not be enrolled in any degree program, currently participate in a Walentas-affiliated program, participate in any other residency program, or maintain a separate studio during their residency. Work involving high levels of noise, heavy machinery, toxic fumes, or fire risk is not permitted. Studio artists must spend at least 20 hours per week in the studio, help plan and participate in the spring open studios event, maintain all communal spaces, and submit reports of studio work at 6 and 12 months.
Applications are available via Slideroom (swstudioprogram.slideroom.com) from December 15, 2025 to January 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST. Artists must submit 5 clear images of their most recent work and a statement describing their need for a studio space. Artists working in video may submit a combination of up to 5 videos and stills. Supplemental materials or mail-in submissions will not be accepted by the jury.
