About the Open Call

The Seattle Prize is dedicated specifically to narrative and figurative painting, with a strong emphasis on technical skill, humanistic themes, and storytelling through visual art. The fellowship aims to revive a model of artistic patronage, giving painters the time, resources, and community needed to create significant work without financial pressure. Selected artists join a cohort and receive a stipend (approximately $50,000–$80,000), studio space, and professional support over a 12-month period beginning in 2026. The program encourages work that is both technically rigorous and culturally meaningful, contributing to a broader vision of contemporary figurative art.
