About the Open Call

The RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE is a joint project of Art Riga Fair (Latvia) and VOYZX Fine Art Project (Canada). Its mission is to unlock and support the potential of talented artists and to provide a wide audience with an opportunity to get acquainted with contemporary art attributed to Automatism, Biomorphism, Dada, Metaphysical Art, and Surrealism. The Biennale is dedicated to the exploration of consciousness and inner worlds through visual arts and writings. Along with the main exhibition, it includes artist’s talks, panel discussions, contests, interviews, and publications. The physical exhibition will be held at the Railway Museum in Riga, Latvia, from May 9th to May 29th, 2026. A 3D Virtual version of the exhibition will be available online from May 9th, 2026, till May 30th, 2027, allowing viewers worldwide to contact participants directly. The Biennale will be promoted through various channels including web, social media, artspaces, newsletters, press, TV, and radio. Riga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former European Cultural Capital, is highlighted as a vibrant art center. Participants will receive a Certificate of Artistic Merit and various awards, including monetary prizes. The Biennale is independent and self-financed. Selected participants are required to pay a moderate participation fee of €215 (inc. VAT) per linear meter. This fee covers organizational costs, rental of exhibition space, equipment, advertisement, administration, curatorial and staff costs, publicity, and 3D Virtual exhibition twin creation. Participation options include in-person, absentee, or a combination. The "early bird" discount of 15% is applied for applications submitted by October 1st, 2025. The final deadline for application submission is January 31st, 2026.

Requirements

Artists or artist’s representatives (galleries, art dealers, etc.) from around the world on any stage of their careers, whose oeuvre is attributed to Automatism, Biomorphism, Dada, Metaphysical Art, and Surrealism.

How to Apply

Artists or their representatives (galleries, art dealers, etc.) should submit brief information about the artist and up to 5 images of artworks that best represent their oeuvre to contact@voyzxart.com or voyzxart@gmail.com. Submissions will be juried by curators from Art Riga and VOYZX Fine Art Project, and appointed art critics from AICA.
