The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation
The residency program provides artists with their own fully furnished casita on the HWF campus. Sessions range from 10 to 12 weeks. The Foundation provides the 'gift of time and space,' placing no expectations or requirements on the artists. Residents are responsible for their own food and transportation, though bicycles are provided. A strict no-work policy prohibits artists from being employed in Taos during their residency.
Rent-free and utility-paid housing in a private casita, bicycles for local transportation, and access to the Commons House, Library, and laundry facilities.
Open to visual artists, literary artists, and music composers. Candidates must submit appropriate work samples and be able to commit to the full residency duration. Casitas are single-occupancy only; no pets allowed. Semi-finalists must provide references.
Applicants must apply online or by mail by the annual deadline of January 18th. The application requires an fee of $30 USD and discipline-specific work samples (e.g., images for visual artists, recordings for composers, video for filmmakers, or manuscripts for literary artists).
