About the Open Call

This call is for the 2026-2027 artist residency program at Est-Nord-Est, focusing on visual artists. Residency periods are 8 weeks long and take place during: Spring (April 20 - June 12, 2026), Summer (July 6 - August 28, 2026), Autumn (September 28 - November 20, 2026), and Winter (January 25 - March 19, 2027). The selection criteria emphasize coherence with the center's mandate for experimentation and research over production, the potential impact of the residency on the artist's career, rigor and clarity of the proposal, and openness to collective life. Est-Nord-Est is committed to diversity, encouraging applications from artists of underrepresented, marginalized, and minority groups.

What is Offered

The 8-week residency includes: artist fees of 2040$ CA; individual studio-workshop accommodation for work and living space; access to specialized equipment (wood, metal, ceramics); access to a documentation center (books, journals); access to local resources; technical, artistic, and logistical support; and access to a bicycle (in season) / punctual local transport in winter. Est-Nord-Est offers artists a place and time for research and experimentation, privileged access to local resources and diverse expertise, and contact with an international artistic community.

Requirements

Materials, travel expenses, and other living expenses are the responsibility of the residents. Residents are expected to: fully utilize the residency period for their research; be present for the entire residency period; present their artistic approach and research interests at a public activity organized by ENE at the beginning of the residency; and present their research and experiments conducted during the stay at a public activity organized by ENE at the end of the residency. Optionally, residents may propose a creative workshop for a local youth or community organization (a fee of 300$ CA is offered if the proposal is selected).

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online and must include: a duly completed application form; a curriculum vitae (maximum two pages in PDF format); a text presenting your artistic approach and your research and experimentation intentions, including your specific needs for technical resources if any (maximum one page in PDF format); and a visual portfolio of 10 to 15 images in a single PDF document accompanied by a descriptive sheet of the images. If video works are presented, include a link (Vimeo, Youtube) accompanied by the password if applicable, ensuring videos are accessible.
