The 2026 edition of the PORTRAITS – Hellerau Photography Award focuses on the theme of 'Escapism'. The call seeks photographic works that explore imagined worlds, reconfigurations of the self, and utopian sequences as alternatives to dominant realities. This theme reflects the historical roots of the Hellerau garden city, established in 1908/09 as a social-utopian counter-model to industrialization. The competition has featured over 400 international artists since its inception in 2015, with the finalist show attracting tens of thousands of visitors.
