As part of the GamesConnect AFRICA project, the PLAYFUL OBSCURA residency supports artists working within the field of arthouse games and playful media. The program aims to foster innovative and experimental practices that push the boundaries of traditional art forms through technology and interactive experiences. Two artists will be selected to work simultaneously in Accra, fostering a sense of community and peer-to-peer exchange while developing independent projects.
The residency provides a production cost allowance of up to 1,000 EUR, a 300 EUR stipend for meals and personal necessities, dedicated living space, and a shared workspace.
Applicants must be artists based in Africa working in playful media or arthouse game development (game designers, digital artists, interactive installation artists). Candidates must be skilled enough to work independently as solo creators on their projects.
Applicants must prepare materials demonstrating their practice in playful media and/or arthouse games, including a portfolio, project proposal, and relevant links. Applications are submitted via the official Microsoft Forms link provided on the Goethe-Institut website.
