About the Open Call

Black Box Gallery is excited to announce an open themed juried group photo show, "Photo Shoot: 2025." The call is open to all themes and ideas, styles and genres, and all perspectives on craftsmanship and photographic creativity, encompassing diverse categories like landscape, architecture, portraiture, documentary, fashion, still life, conceptual projects, street, color and black and white, nature, and night photography. The exhibition aims to showcase a great diversity of photographs. The juror for this exhibition is Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery, who holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has extensive experience as a photography portfolio reviewer, independent curator, and in arts education and administration. Johnson's photographic work has been exhibited nationally. The exhibition will feature 26 photographs selected by the juror for physical exhibition at the gallery, with an additional 50 photographs selected for exhibition in their on-line gallery annex. All 76 selected photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books. Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibited works, utilizing a color-calibrated environment and archival ink jet printing on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper. Exhibition prints are kept in a flat file for future sale and promotion. The gallery operates on a 50% commission for all sales, with the remaining 50% going to the photographer; artists may opt out of sales if preferred. Notification of juror selections will be sent 7-10 days after the deadline.

What is Offered

Exhibition opportunity (physical and online), inclusion in a published catalog, free printing, matting, and framing for selected works, and 50% commission on any sales.

Requirements

The exhibition is open to all photographers worldwide, both amateur and professional. Accepted photographers must provide high-resolution Tiff or JPEG files for printing. Submitted files must be JPEGs, 1200 pixels on the longest side at 72 PPI, 5 MB or less each.

How to Apply

Applicants must send the entry fee via PayPal, then email info.blackboxgallery@gmail.com. The email subject line should be 'Photo Shoot: 2025'. The body of the email must include the applicant's name, exhibition name, optional Instagram handle, and titles of included photos with corresponding file names. Up to 5 photos can be attached as JPEG files, sized to 1200 pixels on the longest side at 72 PPI, and 5 MB or less each. File names should follow the format: firstname_lastname1.jpg, firstname_lastname2.jpg, etc.
