Trinacria Theatre Company
A space for creation, reflection, and connection. Nestled in the remote mountain village of Pezzolo, Sicily, the Pezzolo Retreat Residency offers artists the time and space to create freely, reconnect with their process, and be inspired by nature’s quiet power. This self-directed residency welcomes artists of all disciplines seeking a pause from the noise of daily life — whether to begin a new project, deepen ongoing work, or simply find stillness and reflection in a breathtaking landscape. The Pezzolo Retreat Residency is open to artists. We encourage applicants who: value self-directed, reflective, and experimental work; appreciate slowing down and engaging deeply with their process, rather than focusing on a finished product; are inspired by natural surroundings and a remote village setting, and who might draw creatively from this unique context; are curious, open, and respectful of a shared residency environment. There are no requirements for public presentations or collaborative outcomes. The residency is designed to provide time, space, and freedom, allowing each participant to set their own goals and rhythms. Each participant has the freedom to determine their own schedule, projects, and outcomes. The focus is on process, exploration, and personal artistic growth. Residents may work independently, collaborate with each other, or experiment with new ideas in the inspiring surroundings of Pezzolo. Residencies are offered for one, two, or three weeks, with a maximum of three artists at a time, ensuring a quiet, intimate, and supportive environment. Artists are provided with private or shared workspaces depending on their needs, and are encouraged to explore both traditional and non-traditional locations throughout the village. While there is no expectation of producing a finished work, residents are welcome to share their work or process with fellow participants or the Pezzolo community at the end of their residency. Days at the residency are structured to balance focused creative time with restful reflection. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sicilian mountains, participants can disconnect from daily pressures and immerse themselves fully in their practice. Optional communal meals or informal gatherings provide space for conversation, inspiration, and connection with fellow residents.
Accommodation in a private room in Casa Trinacria (shared bathrooms), fully equipped shared kitchen space, access to workspaces, pick-up / drop-off at local airport bus stop, 1 catered meal per day, transportation 1 - 2 times per week to a local grocery store.
Participants must be 18 or older at the time of the program. There is no upper age limit on participation. Participants may apply as individuals or in small groups (no more than 3). Artists are responsible for securing their own passports and visas necessary for travel. The residency will primarily be conducted in English; good working knowledge of English is necessary for all participants. Candidates advancing to the next stage will be contacted for a short, informal interview and to provide a character reference. Travel medical insurance is required for all participants from outside Italy.
