About the Open Call

The Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award supports the creation of new work by emerging artists in California. Winners receive a $4,000 award to further their work in a significant direction, along with an exhibition and an artist talk at the Pence Gallery. Emerging artists are defined as those early in their careers with limited exhibition experience and no extensive solo exhibit history. Submitted work must be original, of high caliber, and completed within the past five years.

Requirements

Applicants must be emerging artists based in California. Work in any medium is accepted except for video or sound. Submission must include a resume, statement, and 10-15 images of work from the last five years.
