About the Open Call

Our Stories celebrates Havering’s diverse heritage through the voices of local practitioners and communities. We are gathering 20 community stories, histories and memories that reveal the heart of the borough. The project involves bringing these stories into the public realm through a series of 20 heritage plaques installed across Havering, each featuring a QR code that connects passers-by to a digital map. The selected artist will develop one unified plaque design with 20 unique versions (QR code and title variable). Each plaque must include the project title, individual story title, a 25-word story text, and a scannable QR code. Materials must be weatherproof and durable for outdoor display.

What is Offered

£5,000 total fee (inc VAT) covering design development, template creation, all materials, production of all 20 plaques, and delivery in 4 batches.

Requirements

Artists should have experience producing multiple works for public spaces using durable, weather-resistant materials. Must possess strong design skills with attention to detail and clear outcomes. Ability to work to phased production timelines is essential. Experience with heritage or commemorative projects and inclusive design is preferred. Preference for creatives living or working in Havering, surrounding boroughs, and the Havering-Essex border.
