Barbican Centre
The Barbican Theatre Open Lab programme gives artists the opportunity to develop a new project, idea or performance as well as taking part in a year-long programme of support. The program is specifically looking for new voices, audiences, ideas, and challenges, supporting early to mid-career artists and companies. The offering includes a week-long studio residency, technical support, a financial contribution, and a comprehensive suite of training and mentoring sessions with Barbican staff.
A week-long residency in the Pit Theatre, technical support and equipment, an optional work-in-progress sharing, a £2,500 project contribution, training sessions on marketing and company development, mentoring from a Barbican Producer, and membership in the Open Lab Community.
Targeted at early to mid-career artists and companies working in theatre and dance. Applicants must be available for residency slots between 27 July and 6 September 2026.
Applicants should submit an expression of interest to theatre@barbican.org.uk with the subject line 'Open Lab APPLICATION'. The EOI can be a written document (250 words on practice, 500 on the project) or a video/audio recording up to 5 minutes long. Shortlisted applicants will receive a £50 honorarium for the second stage.
