About the Open Call

We Gather Here Because We Must is an international artist exchange and residency between Get It Done (Manchester) and Aks Creative Hub (Ankara), supported by the British Council. The program pairs four emerging artists from Türkiye and the UK to explore creative interventions for climate awareness in public spaces. The project involves an online exchange, research and co-design phase, followed by an in-person residency in Ankara in 2026. Artists will explore how to activate public space for climate resilience and connection in response to climate stress and gentrification.

What is Offered

#250 participation fee, plus covered residency costs including international flights, accommodation, and some meals.

Requirements

Applicants must be emerging visual artists aged 18-30 based in Greater Manchester with a hands-on, participatory practice in public spaces. Experience engaging with nature, sustainability, or environmental themes is ideal. Priority is given to artists underrepresented in the arts sector or those affected by climate stress, gentrification, or shrinking civic rights.
