About the Open Call

In partnership with the International Shakespeare Festival Craiova, this open call invites visual artists to bring new visual encounters to the cultural scene during the 2026 festival edition titled 'Will Matters'. Artists are expected to create work inspired by Shakespeare's man, characters, costumes, or places. Selected artists will travel, live, and work in Craiova for ten days, resulting in an exhibition.

What is Offered

Artist participation fee of 1,000 euros, travel/flight reimbursement up to 500 euros, up to 500 euros for materials and logistics, accommodation in Craiova center, three meals per day, studio space, and media exposure.

Requirements

Artists may apply independently or in groups of 3–5. Must be prepared to travel and work in Craiova between 15–25 May 2026. Proposal must be inspired by William Shakespeare.

How to Apply

Artists must submit a written proposal in English (max. 800 words) addressing Shakespearean interests, research methods, and practice mediums, along with a concise résumé and relevant past project photos to shakespearefestival26@gmail.com.
