UCL and Shape Arts
UCL, supported by Shape Arts, seeks to commission an artist to translate National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat) research into a tactile and spatial installation. The work should respond to themes like feeling invisible, exhaustion, and unpredictability in urban streetscapes. The piece will be exhibited at UCL London in June 2026 and later permanently displayed at Coventry University. The project aims to spark dialogue with policymakers and the public regarding streetscape accessibility. We welcome artists working in various media, including film and moving image, especially those using materials found in street environments.
£3000 artist fee (inclusive of costs/materials), exhibition at UCL East in June 2026, permanent display at Coventry University, inclusion in strategic report/document, and profile raising through organizational networks.
Must be a UK-based disabled artist. Artists should be willing to engage with academic research and lived experience data as source material for the commission. Consideration of both in-person and digital formats is required.
Submit a short practice statement (100 words), a project proposal (500 words), up to 5 images or links to previous work, and an access statement to Dr. Arun Ulahannan at Arun.Ulahannan@coventry.ac.uk by 9am GMT on 16 February 2026.
