Magnum Foundation
Counter Histories: Puerto Rico is an initiative supporting projects that build a collective visual archive for the archipelago. Building on a long-standing initiative, Magnum Foundation is partnering with the Instituto de Observación Colectiva and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Puerto Rico to support work that upends historical representations by outsiders and centers the perspectives of those with ties to the archipelago. The fellowship includes virtual programming and an in-person symposium.
$10,000 project development grant, discretionary funds for expert sessions, 8-month virtual fellowship, and covered travel expenses for an in-person symposium in February 2027.
Open to photographers or artists who use photography as a significant part of their practice. Projects must focus on Puerto Rico or Puerto Rican identity and relate to the theme of Counter Histories. Applicants must be committed to participating in virtual sessions and sharing project results publicly by the end of the program.
Applications must be submitted via Submittable and include a current and past work sample, a short bio, and a short project description. Applicants must also list creative inspirations and describe their project's needs for completion.
