Malakta
The Malakta Artist in Residency (AiR) program invites artists and creatives for immersive stays from August to December, with a flexible duration of 1-2 months, tailored to individual artistic needs. Residents gain access to a shared apartment with a private bedroom, a personal workspace, and various shared studios including Studio Toivo, Studio Eila, and the Spray Tower, which serves as a multifunctional space for concerts, performances, and exhibitions. Additionally, workshops for wood, metal, clay, textile, graffiti, graphic print, and a darkroom are available. The program includes professional on-site mentoring from local Malakta artists, matched to the resident's artistic aspirations. Malakta emphasizes a family-friendly environment, welcoming artists with families, and provides facilities like two wood-fired saunas and access to the Malax river for swimming. It encourages a vibrant, collaborative atmosphere where artists can engage in community arts activities, realize projects, hold artist talks, and exhibit their work, while also experiencing the unique Ostrobothnian nature and culture. The residency promotes artistic development from initial research to finished works.
