About the Open Call

ON DURATION is an international, research-based artist residency hosted by AADK Spain and founded by Raegan Truax. The program focuses on durational art practices, inviting artists and researchers to explore time as a core material in artistic creation. Taking place in Blanca, Spain, the residency brings together an interdisciplinary and global cohort of artists to engage in site-responsive work, collaborative research, and public artistic praxis. The program emphasizes experimentation, embodiment, ecology, and the relationship between time, space, and the environment.

Requirements

ON DURATION is a specialized residency dedicated to artists whose work engages with duration, endurance, and temporality. Participants are immersed in a unique natural landscape of mountains, river valleys, and orchards, where they develop site-specific practices informed by their surroundings. The residency offers studio spaces, mentoring, workshops, and collaborative exchanges, encouraging artists to deepen their practice through both individual research and collective dialogue. Artists explore themes such as body and materiality, ecological systems, speculative time, and the political dimensions of durational work. Rather than focusing on final outcomes, the program prioritizes process, experimentation, and long-form artistic inquiry, often culminating in public presentations or durational performances.
