HOSQ
Notations is a music laboratory where artists come together to reinterpret and transform Armenian classical music through interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants will interact with archival Armenian compositions, combining them with contemporary sound techniques, performance, visual arts, and technology. The laboratory provides a space for creating new artistic expression that challenges traditional structures and expands the boundaries of audio-visual experience. At the end of the laboratory, the Showcase will present the works developed during the laboratory. The Showcase will feature live performances, immersive installations, and multimedia art, providing a platform for artists to share their vision. The laboratory serves as the starting point for projects that will continue to evolve, with works being developed and presented at international festivals, exhibitions, together with the presence on the digital platforms. These projects will have a lasting future, reaching global audiences and continuing their creative journey far beyond the laboratory. This is the first edition of a two-week cross-disciplinary laboratory dedicated to interact with musical heritage. Key objectives include Collaborative Creation by providing a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration between artists from different backgrounds, Reinterpretation of Armenian Classical Music by engaging participants with archival Armenian compositions, allowing them to experiment and create new works that blend classical music with modern techniques, Global Exposure by presenting projects at international festivals, exhibitions, and digital platforms, ensuring that the works created during the laboratory have a lasting impact and reach audiences worldwide, and Sustainability by ensuring the continuation of projects after the laboratory, with opportunities for global performance, album releases, and further development of the works created. What to Expect: Collaborative projects bringing together art professionals from across the globe; a Showcase as the culmination of the laboratory; Post-Laboratory Development of projects for international presentation; Everyday Engagement fostering authentic connection; and Peer mentorship tailored to each participant. Notations is a unique opportunity to be part of an innovative laboratory that merges classical music with contemporary artistic practices, a chance to reimagine musical heritage and collaborate with like-minded artists to bring something truly new and bold into the world.
Accommodation and food will be provided for all participants throughout the laboratory. All materials and equipment necessary for the work will be supplied.
We are looking for artists — musicians, performers, sound artists, sound and light engineers, video artists — who are eager to experiment, collaborate, and push the boundaries of audio-visual experience. Ideal participants should have at least 5 years of experience in their field (emerging artists are welcome), be individuals for whom art is a primary professional focus, be curious, collaborative, and ready to experiment with new sound techniques and artistic forms, and be excited by the opportunity to develop projects that will be presented on international stages, released as albums, and tour the world. Elementary level of English proficiency and knowledge of professional terms are needed. All activities, workshops, and mentorship will be conducted in English. The laboratory is a full-time, immersive experience, and participants should be ready for a deep commitment to both creative work and collaboration throughout the duration of the event.
