About the Open Call

This call for entries invites artists to submit fiber-based works for a juried exhibition. Awards include cash prizes for first, second, and third place, with the Best in Show artist receiving an opportunity for a solo exhibition. The exhibition is guided by the museum's Artistic Freedom Policy and welcomes both 2D and 3D works that adhere to specific size and weight limitations. Artwork for sale is encouraged, with the museum retaining a 40% commission.

What is Offered

Cash prizes for first, second, and third place; Best in Show artist opportunity for a solo exhibition; 60% sales commission; inclusion in museum exhibition.

Requirements

Works must be at least 25% fiber or use fiber techniques. Maximum size for wall-hung work is 66x66 inches with 3-inch depth; 3D work must not exceed 120 total inches (L+W+H). Max weight is 45 lbs. Works must not have been previously exhibited at the Virginia Quilt Museum.

How to Apply

Submit up to three works via the CaFÉ application system. Each piece requires a separate entry, though artists use coupon codes to avoid paying the fee for the second and third entries after the initial $45 ($35 for members) fee. Required materials include high-quality JPEG images (overall and detail) and a 1,000-character artist statement.
