Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center
SUBTRACTIVITY is a call to artists for works made by or about a subtractive process. The exhibition explores reduction as a principle of revelation, where the act of clearing away excess material—like acid biting into metal or a blade cutting wood—clarifies what is essential. This curated exhibit is open to all media and explores the concept of an image or object being excavated from its material.
Every exhibiting artist receives a $50 cash honorarium. One work per exhibition period will be awarded a $1,000 Grand Jury Award. Artists receive 70% of sales if works are sold. Selected works will be documented in the high-quality hardcover Manifest Exhibition Annual publication.
Open to all artists internationally. Entries must represent original works addressing the subtractive theme. Image files must be named correctly (Lastname_Firstname_1.jpg) and be at least 1000 pixels at 72 dpi. Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance to the gallery.
Artists must complete the online entry form at the specified URL, pay the application fee via PayPal or check, and upload digital images to the project-specific Dropbox link provided after form submission. Video-based works require a viewable online link and a representative JPEG image.
