About the Open Call

New Contemporaries Artist Residency Programme announced today - a new series of exciting opportunities designed to support the next wave of UK-based emerging and early-career artists. This inspiring new initiative kicks off a bold three-year residency programme created to mark our 75th anniversary, reaffirming our long-standing commitment to shaping a more inclusive, dynamic, and representative arts landscape. We’ve partnered with two visual arts organisations—Forma, London and Hospitalfield, Arbroath, Scotland —to co-create bespoke, fully-funded residencies that provide the space, time, and support artists need to experiment, grow and connect. Residency #1: London, Forma - A one-year Studio Residency for artists working in live and time-based practices—including performance, moving image, and sound. Location: FormaHQ, London. When: October 2025 – September 2026. Support: A fully funded studio space for 12 months, curatorial support, and peer learning. Focus: Creative development, experimentation, and visibility in one of the world’s cultural capitals. Residency #2: Scotland, Hospitalfield - A two-week intensive residency, set in the unique and inspiring environment of Hospitalfield in Arbroath, Scotland. When: Spring 2026. Support: A fully funded 2-week residency, accommodation at Hospitalfield House, a £1,000 bursary to cover research and travel, as well as additional access and care-givers bursaries of up to £300. Focus: Collaborative learning, reflection, and practice exchange across disciplines. These residencies are free to access and designed for artists who have not had access to similar opportunities previously.
