NYC Culture Club
NYC Culture Club is pleased to present ITALIANI, a solo exhibition by the American artist of Italian roots Salvatore Catalano, curated by Clayton Calvert, organised in collaboration with ITSLIQUID Group and sponsored by Goldman Sachs Gives. The exhibition will be held from October 1 to 30, 2025, at Palazzo Velli, in the heart of Trastevere, Rome. Through a series of finely detailed portraits, Catalano celebrates in ITALIANI the stories and legacy of Italian personalities whose contributions to art, science, politics, and literature continue to inspire the world today. From great masters such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael to icons of music and cinema like Verdi, Pavarotti, Bocelli, Sophia Loren, and Federico Fellini; from literary voices such as Italo Calvino and Pirandello to leading women in science and politics like Margherita Hack, Rita Levi Montalcini, Samantha Cristoforetti, and Giorgia Meloni. At the core of the exhibition, there is Catalano’s deep connection to his Italian roots. After years of researching Italian history and literature, he discovered a contrast in how historical figures have been visually represented – especially women, whose stories often remain in the shadows of male-dominated narratives. Originally focused on highlighting these overlooked women, “Italiani” has evolved into a broader tribute to those who embody the spirit of Italian creativity, determination, and cultural impact regardless of gender. Through Catalano’s technique, which which blends classical influences with modern sensitivity, the exhibition features a selection of portraits of scientists, politicians, entrepreneurs, humanitarians, artists, and writers, whose lives tell powerful stories of courage, innovation, and cultural pride. Rhythmic lines, fine contrasts of light and shadow, and a deep psychological insight characterise the subjects who achieved excellence in their field while helping shape a richer, more inclusive vision of Italian identity. With “Italiani“, Catalano invites viewers to consider how personal and collective memory can be preserved through portraiture, not just as documentation, but as celebration. His work becomes a mirror of a nation’s past and present, reminding us that history is not only made by those who are remembered, but also by those who are finally seen. The exhibition is curated by Clayton Calvert, organized by NYC Culture Club, with exhibition management & press office by ITSLIQUID Group and sponsored by Goldman Sachs Gives. The opening is on October 01, 2025, at 06:00 PM at Palazzo Velli, Piazza di S. Egidio n. 10, Rome. Opening hours are Tuesday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 01:00 PM & 03:00 PM – 07:00 PM.
