Japanese American National Museum
The 4th annual Irene Yamamoto Arts Writers Fellowship, presented by the Daniel K. Inouye National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, supports emerging writers of color who provide critical, analytical, or interpretive perspectives on visual art. The fellowship aims to broaden cultural criticism by highlighting voices from diverse cultural and political perspectives. Visual art is defined broadly to include museum/gallery works, public art (murals, sculptures), and digital art (NFTs, memes).
Two fellows will each receive a $5,000 unrestricted cash award, the opportunity to publish a piece of criticism on the Democracy Center blog, and the opportunity to deliver a talk at the museum.
Applicants must be emerging writers of color whose primary practice is writing about the arts. Writing samples must focus on visual art (not theater, music, or literature). Submissions of creative writing (poetry, fiction, memoir) are not eligible.
Applications must be submitted through the official fellowship portal on CallforEntry.org (CaFÉ) at https://artist.callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=16930
