About the Open Call

The Teatri Riflessi Festival 2026, organized by IterCulture APS, focuses on the theme of 'legacy'—a trace, a seed that transforms, a memory layered within bodies, landscapes, and relationships. It encourages reflections on cultural, ecological, and political responsibilities towards the future. Through an open call, 12 short performances (maximum 15 minutes) will be selected. Semi-finalists will perform on July 16 and 17, 2026, in Zafferana Etnea. Finalists will perform on July 19. The competition emphasizes the short performance format for its artistic immediacy and urgency. Prizes include monetary awards for Best Performance (€1,200), Best Dramaturgy (€500), Best Direction (€500), Best Performer (€500), Scholars’ and Critics’ Award (€500), ‘Valentina Nicosia’ Fund (€500), and ‘Sandra Bressan’ Fund (€1,500). Special prizes also include artist residencies and touring opportunities from network partners.

What is Offered

Each selected short performance will receive a fee ranging from €500 to €1,100 (VAT included) and a possible contribution towards travel expenses (up to €250). Monetary awards include Best Performance (€1,200), Best Dramaturgy (€500), Best Direction (€500), Best Performer (€500), Scholars’ and Critics’ Award (€500), ‘Valentina Nicosia’ Fund (€500), and ‘Sandra Bressan’ Fund (€1,500). Special prizes include artist residencies and touring opportunities within partner festivals and programmes.

Requirements

Short performances must have a maximum duration of 15 minutes. A recording of the entire performance is required; excerpts or trailers are not sufficient. If no script is available, a text detailing the dramaturgical research is needed. Minor changes to the work or cast members must be communicated and authorized. Participants must be available in Zafferana from July 14 or 15 until July 19, 2026, for rehearsals and performances.

How to Apply

Applicants must download and read the official call (available in English). Submit proposals via a digital form, the link to which is provided in Art. 5 of the call. A recording of the entire performance and a text detailing the dramaturgical research behind the work are required. One form per performance must be filled.
