About the Open Call

The Indigenous World Dance program brings together Indigenous dancers from around the world to deepen their artistic practice and connect with one another in a supportive, collaborative environment. The program includes: Faculty-led sessions with daily warm-ups, workshops, and one-on-one mentorship to foster growth and community. Collaborative creation with opportunities to develop new movements and ideas alongside fellow participants. Program culmination in partnership with faculty and a guest choreographer, where participants present short excerpts of their work in an informal open studios format.

What is Offered

A scholarship covering 100% of the total fee (tuition, accommodation, and meal plan) is awarded to all Indigenous arts participants. Included are a single bedroom on the Banff Centre campus, a meal plan equivalent to $68 credit per day, specialized studio space, opportunities to showcase work-in-progress (Open Studios), group seminars/workshops with faculty, access to the Paul D. Fleck Library and Archives, and free access to the Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation Centre (swimming pool, climbing gym, and fitness suite). Participants also receive Box Office Discounts for ticketed performances.

Requirements

This residency is open to Individual Indigenous dancers from around the world. Applicants must be 18+ at the time of the program start date. Domestic and international applications are welcome. International applicants must obtain a Visitor Visa to enter Canada as the program does not meet eligibility requirements for a Canadian Student Visa.
