Idle Hands
Idle Hands invites emerging and mid-career artists based in New York City to apply for the Idle Hands Incubation Award. For this cycle, the focus is on Time-Based Media (film, video, sound, and durational practices) exploring the theme of 'Tactility.' Tactility here refers to sensory experience, embodiment, and material presence conveyed over time. Selected artists receive financial support, mentorship, and access to a Williamsburg loft space for a concluding exhibition. Artists retain full creative autonomy and ownership of intellectual property.
$10,000 USD unrestricted stipend, professional network access for mentorship, two studio visits, exhibition space in Williamsburg, and technical/logistical support for installation.
Applicants must be emerging or mid-career artists or collectives (duos/trios) based in one of the five boroughs of New York City. Projects must engage with time-based media and the theme of Tactility. Recipients of previous Idle Hands awards must wait three years to reapply.
