International Documentary Association
IDA is piloting an emergency assistance program for documentary filmmakers whose work puts them in imminent and extreme physical danger. Eligible filmmakers may request a one-time emergency grant between $500 and $5,000 (USD). IDA will respond to all applications within 24 hours and handle them with strict confidentiality. The program protects freedom of expression by providing direct support to filmmakers at risk because of their work. This is a six-month pilot program assessing needs in the field with the intent to sustain and grow the initiative.

Applicants must demonstrate immediate and extreme personal physical danger (risk of death, bodily harm, or detainment) related to their documentary project. Must provide a concrete plan for fund usage, a project risk assessment plan, any necessary travel visas if applicable, and at least two professional references. Applicants must also have a safe way to receive funds via wire or PayPal.
