The Honeybourne Line project seeks site-specific public art to enhance the visual and experiential quality of a 1.3-mile section of a former railway line now used for walking and cycling. Creative interventions may include artistic seating, gateway/wayfinding features, interpretive installations reflecting railway history or spa town legacy, and biodiversity-inspired art. Artworks must be durable, low-maintenance, and safe for public interaction, ideally using sustainable or recycled materials. The project includes a mandatory community engagement component with local schools and resident groups.
A total budget of £60,000 inclusive of artist fees, materials, fabrication, installation, and community engagement.
Proposals must be durable, low-maintenance, and safe for public interaction. Submission must include a community engagement strategy. Lead artists must coordinate all aspects if collaborating.
Submit an artist CV, portfolio, two references, a concept proposal (max two pages), a community engagement plan, a budget breakdown, and a timeline. Applications should be sent to the Greenspace team at Cheltenham Borough Council via email to GreenSpaceDevelopment@cheltenham.gov.uk or by post to Municipal Offices, Promenade, Cheltenham, GL50 9SA.
