About the Open Call

Applications for the 2026 Hewnoaks residency season are open to artists across disciplines including visual art, writing, music, film, and performance. The residency provides self-catering accommodation in rustic, historic cabins on a hilly property. The selection process prioritizes clarity of intention over resume accomplishments, and while Maine residents receive preference, artists from all locations are encouraged to apply.

What is Offered

Private cabin residency for 7 or 10 days and automatic consideration for the Warren Memorial Foundation Fellowship ($700 stipend) or the Joshua Bodwell Fellowship ($500 award) for eligible applicants.

Requirements

Current full-time or part-time students are ineligible. Returning residents who have attended two years in a row must take a one-year break. Applicants must be able to navigate a hilly property with uneven paths and rustic facilities that are not currently ADA accessible.
