About the Open Call

The Open Studio Residency supports approximately 50 participants from craft and creative disciplines, providing uninterrupted time to work in specialized studios including blacksmithing, ceramics, fiber, graphics, metals, wood, and the Fab Lab. The program emphasizes a dynamic exchange of ideas and creative processes among peers in a shared studio environment. Residents are self-directed and have the opportunity to experiment across media or focus on a specific project. Studios are supported by technicians, and the program includes opportunities for residents to share work and discuss influences across disciplines.

What is Offered

The residency is free of charge for tuition, room, and board. Studio Technicians receive an honorarium of $1,500, plus room and board and limited travel cost coverage.

Requirements

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older. Both national and international artists are eligible. Residents must be self-directed and able to work in a communal, shared studio setting. Application requires work samples (images, writing samples, or links to video/sound work). Participation is required for the full two-week session.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted online. Resident applicants must apply through SlideRoom (haystack.slideroom.com). Studio Technician applicants must apply through the StarRez portal. Both applications require work samples and project descriptions where applicable.
