About the Open Call

Guest Room aims to inspire collaboration and creative exchange. In this edition, Gagosian Director of Photography Joshua Chuang, partners with American artist and photographer Barney Kulok to introduce the theme for submissions: "Close Call". This theme expands on the common understanding of a 'close call' by focusing on the physical proximity between lens and subject in photography and the communicative 'call' or invitation to the viewer. Submitting to Guest Room offers artists the chance to be discovered by experts in contemporary art and photography and to be published in an online showcase on Der Greif alongside emerging artists from all over the world. Der Greif is an award-winning organization for contemporary photography, functioning as a print-publication, online-publication, curatorial team, and joint project, exploring and expanding the borders and limits of image-distribution and reception in the digital era.

Requirements

Images which have been selected for a previous Der Greif opportunity are not eligible for re-submission. The organizers encourage submissions of work that has not yet been selected by past Guest Curators to support the broadest range of photographers possible.
