Screen Scotland
This fund supports organisations based in Scotland who produce and deliver film festivals and public screening programmes. It prioritises activity that addresses underserved and underrepresented audiences, and projects that align with Screen Scotland’s Focus Areas. Events must take place between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2026 (or up to 31 August 2027 for Development Funding applicants). Grants range from £15,000 to £45,000. Key changes include an extended timeline, eligibility for personal access costs, and implementation of BFI Diversity Standards. Projects should expand the reach, impact, and diversity of screen culture, engage underrepresented audience groups, and align with Screen Scotland’s Audience Development Goals and Focus Areas. The fund supports various project costs including research, staff costs (adhering to Fair Work principles), training, consultation, programme costs (film hire, guest speakers), access costs, equipment/venue hire, marketing, engagement activities, industry activity, community engagement, organisational development, fundraising, and monitoring/evaluation. Costs incurred before funding confirmation are not eligible.
Grants from £15,000 to £45,000 per year, with the possibility of additional funding for personal access costs. A one-time opportunity for established organisations to request two-year Development Funding for activity taking place up to 31 August 2027.
This fund is open to incorporated organisations based in Scotland with experience in producing events and film screenings. In-person events must take place in Scotland, and digital events must primarily focus on Scottish audiences. Applicants must apply to the BFI Diversity Standards prior to applying. A minimum of 30% co-funding (cash or in-kind) of the budget is required from other sources. For Development Funding, applicants must have a proven track record (successfully run at least two editions of their festival/screening programme within the last three years, and be a previous recipient of Screen Scotland funding), demonstrate significant public activity in both years, have a strong record of reaching underrepresented audiences, include underrepresented voices in film programming, show a measurable commitment to accessibility (minimum 20% of activity with specific access provisions), and have solid governance with at least one year-round staff member.
Applications to the Film Festival & Screening Programme Fund should be made through the Application Form available in the Guidance and Downloads section and submitted by email to screen@creativescotland.com. Applicants should read the fund guidelines and application form in full, ensuring they meet eligibility criteria. First-time applicants are highly recommended to meet with the Audience Development team by emailing enquiries@creativescotland.com with a brief project description. Required supporting materials include a completed application form, proof of application to the BFI Diversity Standards, a finance plan and budget, a risk assessment, a marketing plan, and a programme strategy document including a draft programme (for activity before 31 August 2026).
