Film and Video Umbrella
FVU:LAB is a program delivered in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University for emerging moving image artists to work with cutting-edge technologies. The lab supports either specific project outcomes or open-ended R&D. Facilities include marker-less motion capture, a virtual production studio with UNREAL Engine, an industry-standard foley recording suite, a green screen studio, and immersive technologies like interactive projection mapping and VR/AR. The program is designed to support experimentation and skills development without strict exhibition requirements.
Selected artists receive a £500 bursary, up to 5 days of access to high-end tech facilities at NTU, two mentoring sessions with FVU Director Angelica Sule, travel, accommodation, per diems, and potential presentation opportunities.
Applicants must be visual artists working with moving image, UK-based, and considered 'emerging' (broadly defined). There are no specific educational requirements or age limits. Artists who have previously received over £10k in funding from FVU are less likely to be selected.
Applications must be submitted via the Google Form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfAIWrrPuZo_5kIZ5psKiiFlsUFJRLqVWguaQBU1m0XVgE8VQ/viewform. Requirements include a 5-minute video reel of past work, a 30-word equipment request, a 400-word project proposal, a 50-word summary, and an artist bio. Audio or video submissions are accepted for accessibility.
