Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA)
Eastern Washington University (EWU) and ArtsWA are seeking an artist or artist team to design and create original, permanent, site-responsive artwork for the newly renovated science facility on EWU’s Cheney, WA campus. The project seeks artwork that connects with the sciences, themes of community and collaboration, and the unique landscape of eastern Washington. The science facility houses biology, geosciences, chemistry, and physics programs. The artwork will be commissioned through ArtsWA’s Art in Public Places program.
A total project budget of $391,863.00, which is inclusive of design, travel, structural engineering, materials, fabrication, installation, artist fees, and taxes.
Eligible artists must be located within the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and British Columbia) and must be eligible for work in the United States. Artists with active or recent ArtsWA projects are ineligible. Selected artists must maintain registration as a Washington State vendor and adhere to state permitting and licensing requirements.
Artists must submit an application via the Submittable platform by January 6, 2026, at 5:00 PM PT. The application requires an artist bio, an artist statement describing their practice and materials, and 8 images of past works or works in progress with descriptions.
